Privacy is the foundation of Better Friend. This policy explains what we collect, why, how we use it, and the rights you have over your information.
1. What we collect
Information you provide
- Phone number (for account verification via OTP).
- Profile information (nickname, preferred languages, interests).
- Payment details — processed by our payment partner; we do not store card numbers.
- Content you share in calls or messages, only to the extent required to deliver the Service.
Automatically collected
- Device information (model, OS, app version).
- Usage data (which features you use, session duration).
- Approximate location (city-level, for language matching).
2. What we do NOT collect
- Call content is not recorded by default. Recording is off unless you explicitly opt in.
- We do not access your contacts, photos, or other apps.
- We do not sell personal data to third parties. Ever.
3. How we use your data
- Match you with relevant experts based on language, topic, and preference.
- Provide safety features like block, report, and moderation.
- Process payments and issue receipts.
- Improve the Service through aggregated, anonymised analytics.
- Communicate important updates (rare — only when necessary).
4. Sharing
We share information only with:
- Experts on a call with you — only what you choose to share (nickname, avatar, call topic).
- Service providers — payment processors, cloud hosting, moderation partners, bound by strict contractual obligations.
- Law enforcement — only when legally compelled, and we will notify you unless prohibited by law.
5. Data retention
We keep your account data as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we erase your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., payment records for 7 years per Indian tax regulations).
6. Your rights
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your account and data.
- Withdraw consent for optional data uses.
- Export your data in a portable format.

7. Security
We use industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest for sensitive data. Access to production systems is restricted and audited. No system is 100% secure, but we take breaches seriously and will notify affected users within 72 hours of discovery.
8. Children
Better Friend is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.
9. International users
Better Friend is operated from India. If you use the Service from outside India, you consent to the transfer of your data to India for processing.
10. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in-app and via email. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
